Imbiber Beads® Imbicator® Maintenance/Spill Products
IMBIBER BEADS® consist of cross-linked alkylstyrene polymers engineered to absorb a wide range of organic chemicals, including gasoline, diesel and motor oil. The beads will absorb up to 27 volumes of compatible organic liquid and swell up to three diameters. Once absorbed, no organic liquid can be re-released as a result of compression, gravitational pull, or additional rainfall.
IMBICATOR® is a visual indicating device which activates in the presence of organic chemicals. The Imbicator® Boom will gradually change from white to red/orange as the absorbent's capacity is reached.
IMBIBER BEADS® are the only true aBsorbent (ASTM F716) “engineered” for organic chemicals such as gasoline, diesel/jet fuels, chlorinated solvents including TCE and PCBs as well as polar compounds MEK and MIBK, in the marketplace today. Once a compatible chemical is imbibed (ABsorb and imbibe are synonymous) the Imbiber Beads®, as opposed to ADsorbents,will swell up to 3 times their original diameter with the compatible chemical (up to 27 volumes of solvent for each volume of the Beads). NO liquid can be released as a result of compression, gravitational pull, inclement weather or even if the Imbiber Beads® were to be cut in half. Conversely, with aDsorbents (example: plastic foams/fibers, peat, sand, porous clay – ASTM F726) any one of them will release aDsorbed liquids exposing both the environment and personnel to liquid contamination and to even more dangerous vapors. In these cases the liquid taken up is simply distributed over the surface (external or internal) of the aDsorbing material.
